The Royals were looking for their first sweep of the season, but fell short on Thursday—-well short. Kansas City lost to Detroit 12-3 at Kauffman Stadium. Carlos Beltran hit his last home run as a Royals in the first inning to give Kansas City a 1-0 lead, but the advantage was short-lived. Detroit bounced back with six runs in the top of the second inning and never looked back. Pudge Rodgriguez was 4-for-5 with four RBI’s and improved his Major League-leading batting average to .373. Ken Harvey dropped to fourth in the American League with an 0-for-3 performance, dropping his average to .346. Starter Chris George was pulled in the fourth inning and got the loss–he allowed nine runs.
