Tony Womack in the bottom half of the fifth. Disaster struck for starter Jeff Suppan who was roughed up and knocked out of the game in the sixth inning. Chicago went on to score six runs in the inning to take a 9-5 lead. Much like the fifth inning, the Cardinals rallied again, this time for three runs thanks to RBI hits from Hector Luna, So Taguchi and Womack. Luna’s sacrifice in the seventh inning tied it at 9-9 and So Taguchi scored on a passed ball in the eighth to give the Cardinals the lead and eventual win. Taguchi finished with two hits, an RBI and three runs on the same day he was recalled from Class-AAA Memphis. Steve Kline got the win by recording the final five outs, but manager Tony LaRussa will likely reprimand him. In the sixth, LaRussa brought Kiko Calero in from the bullpen to replace Suppan. Kline, who hadn’t pitched since June 11, was disappointed at not getting called into the game and sent his manager an obscene gesture, which WGN of Chicago picked up on camera.
