Sprint has announced plans to lay-off 1,100 workers, half of them in the Kansas City area. The company, one of Kansas City’s largest employers, acknowledges its long-distance service keeps falling as its wireless operation keeps growing. Long distance made Sprint into the $26-Billion corporation it is, but Sprint wireless sales topped traditional phone sales for the first time during the first quarter of this month. Long distance sales have been falling for three years.
