A county judge has refused to remove a proposed constitutional amendment from the August ballot that would allow the southwest Missouri community of Rockaway Beach to have a gambling boat. Cole County Judge Richard Callahan says the only thing that could be challenged on the issue prior to the election was whether or not the initiative petition to put it on the ballot was flawed. Opponents of the casino argue it is against the state constitution. They’re considering an appeal and say they’ll have to do that within 10 days, if they’re going to appeal at all.
