Central Missouri State’s bid to repeat at the NCAA Division-II World Series began with a 6-5 loss to Delta St. Sunday. The Mules committed three errors and the third one proved to be the difference—Andy Mayfield’s two-out throwing error that allowed Delta State’s Clay Smith to score the winning run. The Mules pitching staff allowed seven walks en route to giving up leads of 1-0 and 4-2. Starting pitcher Steve Sharpe was 13-0 coming into the game, but lasted just 4 2/3 innings Sunday. The Mules moved into the losers bracket and will face Kutztown on Tuesday at 2:30.
