Isringhausen Blows 9th Inning Lead For Cardinals

May 19, 2004 By admin Leave a Comment

Everything seemed to be going smoothly for the Cardinals. Matt Morris worked 6 1/3 innings and allowed three runs, Steve Kline and Julian Tavarez pitched 1 2/3 innings of perfect ball and handed Jason Isringhausen a 4-3 lead in the ninth inning. But Isringhausen walked two batters and gave up two, two-out singles to Kat Matsui and Cliff Floyd as New York beat St. Louis 5-4 at Shea Stadium. The Cardinals got two of their four runs in the loss from Scott Rolen who drove in Albert Pujols with a double in the first and scored Edgar Renteria with a single in the fifth. Jim Edmonds had an RBI single and Mike Matheny hit his second homer of the season.
