The Central Missouri State University baseball team is headed back to Montgomery, Alabama for the fifth straight year for the NCAA Division-II College World Series. The Mules took no prisoners in beating Wayne St. (Neb.) to win the Central Regional in Warrensburg. The Mules blew open a 3-2 ballgame by scoring four in the fifth, four in the sixth, and eight in the seventh. CMSU had 18 hits and took advantage of four Wayne State errors. Tournament MVP Steve Downey led the charge with a 3-for-4 performance. He scored a pair of runs and drove in three. For the tournament the senior right fielder from Topeka, Kan. was 8-for-13 with a home run, four runs scored, and nine RBI. The Mules out-scored their opponents 49-3 at the regional and improved to 54-6, which tied a school record for wins in a single season. CMSU’s ranked #1 and is the defending national champion in Division-II. They will face Delta State (Ms.) in their World Series opener on Sunday. Delta St. is ranked #2 in the polls.
