Annie Malone Parade Marred by Violence

May 17, 2004 By admin Leave a Comment

One of St.Louis’ biggest annual celebrations has been marred by violence. Two incidents at the annual Annie Malone Parade have left six people hurt. The most serious injury is to a 17-year-old girl, who was slashed by another 17-year-old girl. Police say the incident stemmed from a school feud. Five people were hurt in another incident by pellets from a shotgun. Officers are investigating to learn if somebody fired the shotgun at a specific target and from where the shot was fired. The Annie Malone parade is one of the oldest African-American parades in the nation. It honors entrepreneur Annie Turnbo Malone and her work on behalf of orphans in St. Louis.
