Irons Suspended For Pulling Team From Game

May 11, 2004 By admin Leave a Comment

Vashon High school basketball coach Floyd Irons has been suspended indefinitely from his summer job. Irons, who is coaching the St. Louis SkyHawks in the United States Basketball League, was disciplined yesterday after pulling the SkyHawks from the court in the first half of a game against the Cedar Rapids River Raiders. Why he did it is still unknown. What is known is that this isn’t the first time Irons has left a game early. In 1990, he pulled his Vashon team from the floor with two seconds to go in a state semifinal game against Raytown South. Saturday’s move resulted in the first forfeit of its kind in the 19-year history of the USBL. Irons, who was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame earlier this year, has won nine state titles at Vashon
