At least one state legislator is wondering if a former state agency chief has received a “golden parachute.” Reports obtained from the State Highway Commission show special assistant Henry Hungerbeeler still collects his $10,000-a-month Director’s salary but is hard-pressed in some lawmakers’ opinions to show $10,000 worth of work. House Transportation Committee Chairman Representative Larry Crawford of California has seen the reports. Crawford still believes, despite this latest public black eye, the Transportation Department is making progress toward better accountability. Former Director Henry Hungerbeeler has refused the Missourinet’s repeated requests for an interview.
