A bill allowing for a civil lawsuit to be filed against anyone helping a minor cross the state line to get an abortion without her parent’s consent moves forward in the House. The bill also would require the Health Department to disclose information about emergency contraception. Representative Vicky Riback-Wilson of Columbia worries about just what kind of information would be disclosed. After concerns are raised about her amendment and an addition to it, it is dropped. Other amendments attempt to restrict who can file lawsuits against whom, with one legislator openly worrying that the amended bill is ripe for abuse. The bill needs one more favorable vote to move to the Senate.
