Cardinals Fall Short Of Sweep

April 19, 2004 By admin Leave a Comment

The Cardinals were hoping to wrap up a three game series against the Rockies with a sweep, but they fell a few feet short of that with an 8-5 loss at Busch. St. Louis trailed 8-5 after Colorado got an RBI single from Aaron Miles in the top of the ninth inning. With two outs in the bottom half of the inning, the Cardinals loaded the bases and Albert Pujols came to bat. He crushed, what would have been a game-winning grand slam to right field, but it was caught at the track by Kit Pellow to end the game. Colorado broke a 3-3 tie in the sixth inning when Marlon Anderson misplayed Pellow’s fly to left field with the bases loaded and the Rockies went up 6-3. Matt Holliday’s double made it 7-3. Anderson made up for it in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run homer. Woody Williams was tagged with the loss, allowing seven runs off eight hits and three walks and is 0-1.
