The season ended with a thud for the Blues. They lost Game 5 of their best-of-seven series 3-1 and were knocked out of the playoffs in the first round. The Blues and Sharks were knotted at the first period 1-1. Brad Stuart got San Jose on the board with a goal at the 1:50 mark of the first period, but the Blues tied it up with Brian Savage’s score 11 minutes and 20 seconds later. Midway through the second period, Mark Smith gave the Sharks the lead and Mike Ricci made it a two-goal game with a score in the third. Chris Osgood only faced 20 shots, but still allowed all three goals. This is the third time the two teams have met in the playoffs and the Sharks have won two of those meetings. All three series have been in the first round.
