Political Differences Tie Up "Jobs Now" Bill In Senate

April 14, 2004 By admin Leave a Comment

A program called “jobs now” is under debate in the Senate. But whether those are or are not union jobs is an issue that has stopped work onthe bill. Senator Jim Mathewson wants to take savings from six tax credit programs he would end and use that money to underwrite a $175-Million bond issue. The bonds would finance capital improvements and repairs at the local government and higher educaiton level. Another Senator wants to change the bill so non-union contractors have a better chance of getting the bids for those projects. His move has caused a work stoppage on the bill in the Senate.
