The Blues went from being on the brink of elimination, to being just a game away from tying their best-of-seven series with the Sharks. Mike Sillinger’s hat trick led St. Louis to a 4-1 win over San Jose in Game 3. After a scoreless first period, Sillinger got the Blues on the boards with a goal assisted by Dallas Drake at the 9:56 mark of the second period. Later in the period, Drake scored a goal of his own and the Blues went into the second period with a 2-0 lead. San Jose’s only goal came at the 5:36 mark of the third when Jonathon Cheechoo beat Chris Osgood, who finished with 19 saves. Sillinger completed the hat trick with an empty-netter with 47 seconds to go. Sillinger did his damage a little out of place. He was moved from the third line to the first line and only played center during face offs. After that he moved to right wing and Pavol Demitra centered the line. Petr Cajanek moved to the third line. The Blues can tie the series up at two with a win tonight. Face-off is at 7:00.
