Republicans and Democrats in the Senate think it’s more important to keep a major bill moving, even though it contains lots of objectionable elements. The Senate has approved the tort reform bill, which reforms the civil lawsuit system. Senate Leader Peter Kinder of Cape Girardeau says the bill has a lot of things different people dislike and a lot of things the House won’t like. But he thinks that means there’s plenty of room for compromise. The bill limits where damage suits can be filed, limits damages that can be paid, increases regulation of malpractice insurance companies, and more.
