Scott Rolen capped a five-run rally in the seventh inning with a three run homer and the Cardinals grabbed their first victory of 2004. They beat the Brewers 9-4 at Busch Stadium Wednesday night. Rolen finished 2-4 with four RBI’s. Jim Edmonds also went deep, driving in two, while Tony Womack had three singles and scored twice. The night was punctuated by clutch hitting from both teams. 10-of-the 13 runs scored on Wednesday came with two outs. Starter Woody Williams, who barely pitched in spring training, lasted three innings and gave up a total of three runs—two were earned. After his exit, Cal Eldred, Mike Lincoln, Julian Tavarez, Ray King and Steve Kline combined for one run off five hits, a walk and three strikeouts. Lincoln was credited with the win in an inning and a third of work. Jeff Suppan makes his Cardinal debut this afternoon and Chris Capuano starts for the Brewers. First pitch is 12:10.
