The House Budget Committee has completed work on an $18.4-Billion budget for the 2005 fiscal year. The budget proposal, approved along party lines, calls for the elimination of than 1,680 full time positions. Many of those positions are currently vacant and will simply go unfilled. Other positions being cut include state workers who will be retiring and will not be replaced. Debate by the full House could begin today.
