The State Senate has started work on a mediation law for homeowners and contractors. The proposal says no lawsuit could be filed involving construction and repair work until efforts to mediate a settlement had broken down.The Senate has rejected a proposal to make the loser of any resulting lawsuit pay the lawyer’s fees of the winner. Opposing senators say such a provision would discourage lawsuits.
