Cards, Royals Play To Ties, Asencio

The Cardinals and Royals decided nothing on Thursday as both teams played to ties in their spring training games. St. Louis and Baltimore played to a 6-6 deadlock in ten innings. Chris Carpenter allowed three runs off six hits and two walks in four innings. Ray Lankford, who has already earned a spot on the Cardinals’ opening day roster, went 3-5 with an RBI and two runs. Jim Edmonds was 1-3 with two RBI’s…..The Royals and Angels tied 8-8 in 11 innings yesterday. Jeremy Affeldt was blasted in five innings of work—he allowed five runs off 11 hits and a walk. Down 8-5 in the ninth, the Royals rallied for three runs to tie it. The Royals got some bad news on Thursday. Miguel Asencio will be sidelined this season as he undergoes Tommy John surgery.
