The United States Mint plans a big ceremony at the Gateway Arch in St. Louis next Sunday to unveil a new nickel. It will be the first time the nickel’s design has been charged in 66 years. Thomas Jefferson is still on the front, but the back of the new nickels is a reproduction of the peace medals Lewis and Clark took west with them to give to indians. Another design change comes in six months, when the next new nickel has the Lewis and Clark keelboat on its back.
