The Senate votes to make cross-burning a specific crime in Missouri. First-round approval has been given to Senator Peter Kinder’s bill that says it’s a felony to burn a cross for the purpose of intimidating a person or a group. He says a man in Boonville burned a cross a couple of years ago. Kinder says the prosecutor there did charge the man, but thinks the state needs a specific law with a tougher penalty than present law has.
