Ralph Nader’s candidacy for the presidency doesn’t guarantee him an automatic spot on Missouri’s November ballot. The Republican, Democrat, and Libertarian Partycandidates are given automatic spots on the November ballot. Anyone representating any other party or running as an independent – in Nader’s case, for instance – mustcollect ten thousand signatures from registered Missouri voters. Spence Jackson with the Secretary of State’s Office says those signatures can come from any regionof the state. The figure of ten thousand is arrived as a result of the requirement that the number of signatures for independents total ten thousand or two percent of the total number of votes cast in the last presidential election.
