At Rockingham, Matt Kenseth took the checkered flag at Sunday’s NASCAR event. Joplin’s Jamie McMurray finished higher than any other driver with Missouri ties, placing third. But there was some controversy. With 50 laps to go and McMurray running third, Matt Kenseth and Casey Kahne who were just ahead of him were taking a pit stop. Meanwhile Robby Gordon and Jeff Green collided and the yellow flag went up. Kenseth and Kahne’s position were frozen once the caution flag went up and were allowed to keep their spots, since McMurray hadn’t passed the start-finish line. McMurray’s team owners Felix Sabates and Chip Ganassi contend that Kenseth and Kahne shouldn’t have been allowed to keep their lap since they pitted before the wreck occurred. Rusty Wallace, a St. Louis native, finished seventh.
