The SMS Bears used a 10-0 run in the second half to hold off Drake and take a 68-59 win at the Hammons Student Center. Before the surge, the SMS trailed 49-45; afterwards they had a 55-49 bulge with 5:32 to go and never trailed again. Drake got to within four points late in the game before freshman Blake Ahearn hit four crucial free throws. Fellow freshman Nathan Bilyeu led the Bears with 11 points. Ahearn, Merrill Andrews, and Anthony Shavies all scored nine apiece as SMS improved to 16-10 on the season and 8-7 in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Bears were impressive on the glass, out-rebounding the Bulldogs 38-26 on Tuesday; Deven Mitchell and Monwell Randle led the way with seven boards apiece.
