Legislators are considering a bill proponents believe would strengthen the consumer protection portions of the law pertaining to public utilities. Among the changes, lawmakers would make funding for the Office of Public Counsel, the state’s utility consumer advocate, into an assessment system, just like the Public Service Commission. The bill also addresses handling of rate complaints, the competitive bidding process, and revising how mergers and acquisitions are carried out. It’sstill in committee.
