It appears that if Southwest Missouri State University is to become Missouri State University, it will have to wait until the University of Missouri gets its $190-Million bond package. That’s the deal the Senate struck to end a 25-hour filibuster and the deal name-change supporters cling to now that the House has rejected the idea. Representative B.J. Marsh of Springfield says he thought he had the votes, but saw his support erode under the withering attacks of his bill by supporters of the University of Missouri. And, ironically, from fallout over the Senate deal. It now, though, is the only way Marsh can see to resurrect the idea. He says he will not try to bring his bill back for reconsideration, but instead will work with the Senate version.
