Missouri’s U.S. Senators At Odds Over Highway Funding Initiative

February 12, 2004 By admin Leave a Comment

A proposal to include a $56-Billion bonding initiative to the Highway Bill being debated in the U.S. Senate gets mixed reactions from Missouri’s two Senators. Senator Jim Talent sponsors the Build America Bonds proposal, which calls for the issuance of a $56-Billion bond initiative for transportation projects. He’s hoping to attach the idea to the massive Federal Highway Bill, which could be voted on in the Senate this week. But Senator Christopher Bond has doubts about the proposal’s chances for success. Bond says special purpose bonding is just too much of a drain on the Treasury. And, this idea is unlikely to have the support needed in the Senate.
