Warner Says Comments Out Of Context

February 6, 2004 By admin Leave a Comment

Kurt Warner says comments at a Houston Church last weekend were taken out of context. He told KFNS radio in St. Louis yesterday that he was just trying to give an inspirational speech when he told a congregation that his devotion to reading the Bible and his faith was one reason he was benched. He said “I actually had (Rams) coaches say I was reading the Bible too much and it was taking away from my play”. Yesterday he told KFNS hosts Tim McKernan and Frank Cusumano “The reason I went down was to preach a sermon and encourage people to stand up for their faith.” Warner added, “The statements that were made were in that context, to stand up and be bold and live up to the faith that we’ve been given through Jesus.” Rams head coach Mike Martz says his decision to bench Warner was not linked to Warner’s religious beliefs or practices.
