Rumors of another prominent Democrat jumping into Missouri’s U.S. Senate race this year are being dismissed as just that – rumors. After St. Louis Congressman Richard Gephardt’s fourth-place finish in the Iowa Caucuses and subsequent dropping out of the presidential sweepstakes, rumors began to swirl that he would take on Senator Christopher Bond for his seat, instead of Gephardt’s fellow Democrat State Treasurer Nancy Farmer, who had already announced her candicacy. Gephardt flatly denied any desire to jump into that race. But State Democratic Party Chair May Scheve says he could have done well. But that said, Scheve says the party is not encouraging Gephardt to jump into the senatorial race.
