It’s official. Secretary of State Matt Blunt is seeking higher office. In what’s been one of the worst-kept secrets in state politics, Blunt has announced his run for the Governor’s seat. And, right out of the gate, Blunt is making campaign promises. He says he’ll never withhold education funding and to make sure education funding is increased each year he’s Governor. If elected, Blunt would be just 34 years old when he takes the Governor’s office, the youngest person ever to occupy that position. He believes his experience belies his young age. Blunt insists he’s not running against anyone in particular, rather he’s running for Governor, but he does say there could be differences in campaign strategies against Governor Bob Holden and his Democratic rival – State Auditor Claire McCaskill.
