Efforts by local governments to allow only union contractors bid on public projects are coming under fire at the State Capitol. State Representative Rob Mayer of Dexter sponsors a measure that would prohibit local governments from entering such union-only project labor agreements. Mayer calls the agreements unfair, becausethey shut out non-union contractors. State law now allows local governments to decide whether to require firms biddingon public projects be union.
