A State Senate committee has heard testimony, but taken no action, on bills changing the names of two of our state institutions of higher education. Southwest Missouri State University wants to become Missouri State University. Missouri Western State College in St. Joseph wants to become Missouri Western State University. Senator Norma Champion of Springfield sponsors the Missouri State bill. She says Southwest Missouri State University is no longer an adequate name for the school because of major changes it has made in the last decade.
