The school district in Nixa has put it on the line for voters – approve a tax levy or 27 things will be cut. On the hit list – Parents as Teachers program, the gifted education program; kindergarten will be reduced to half days; 50 employees will be let go; students within two miles of school would have to find a new way to get to class because buses would not pick them up; and after-school programs for junior high school students would end. Nixa school district leaders blame deep budget cuts caused by cuts in state funding. The school board will decide how much the tax increase should be.
