The State of Missouri no longer has a way to pay for cleaning up waste tire dumps. The 50-cent fee on new tires has expired. As of January 1st, the State is not allowed to collect that fee. The Natural Resources Department says it has used that money to remove about $12-Million tires from illegal waste tire dumps. It also has used the money to help set up tire recycling programs and operate inspection programs for waste tire operations.
