A group that advocates for children calls on the Legislature to raise the money Missouri’s children need for their health and safety. Citizens for Missouri’s Children wants five things frm the Legislature this year – protection for abused and neglected children, no cuts in children’s health and mental health services or in early childhood education, stronger support for working families with children, and adequate revenues supported by fair taxes. Policy Director Ruth Erisman says she hopes the Legislature has the backbone to protect and improve services to children. She says a lot of lawmakers give lip service to the idea that “the children are our future.” But she says they don’t make decisions that are consistent with that statement. Ehresman says it’s about time they did.
