The future of the Missouri MOST Program, which gives people tax deductions for putting money aside to pay for colleges and expenses, is the subject of some heated debate. State Senator Anita Yeckel of St. Louis will try again to broaden the program by allowing Missourians to invest in similar programs in other states. State Treasurer Nancy Farmer, who runs the program, says Yeckel is out to destroy it. Yeckel doubts Farmer’s claim, based on changes in other states’ programs. A consultant to Senate Republicans recommends they make changes in the MOST program an early priority in the upcoming session.
