Falcons, Giants Want To Talk To Lovie Smith

December 30, 2003 By admin Leave a Comment

With the increased number of NFL head coaching jobs that are expected to open up, many top assistants may be leaving their current positions. Rams defensive coordinator Lovie Smith may be one of them. When the Rams returned from their loss in Detroit on Sunday, the Falcons and Giants had already asked permission to talk with Smith about their vacancies. Smith may talk to the teams as early as this week, but he won’t be allowed to do so next week. The NFL allows assistants on playoff teams to do job interviews during their bye week, but prohibit them from doing so on game week. Smith took over as the Rams’ defensive coordinator in 2001.
