Within days, the first Missourians will be filing their income tax returns for 2003. And, the Revenue Department is getting ready. Hundreds of thousands of returns will hit the Department, with the trickle at the first of the year becoming a torrent by mid-April. Revenue Director Carol Russell Fisher says cuts in the department budget have reduced the money available for overtime payments to workers who process returns. But she thinks streamlining of the processing process will still let the Department do better with fewer people. And those people are being hired. She says the process also is helped by the return of some employees who’ve retired, but are returning on a part-time basis during the processing season.
