Anyone thinking of buying one of those motorized bicycles for a young person should probably think twice. The State Revenue Department points out there are restrictions on who can operate those bikes on public streets. The Department’s Jessica Robinson says a motorized bicycle cannot be operated on the streets by anyone under the age of 16. Robinson adds there are many off-road locations in which these bikes can be operated without the rider needing a driver’s license. Some municipalities even allow riders to operate these bicycles on sidewalks. Those decisions are up to individual communities.
