Congressman Not Concerned With European Opposition To Possible Saddam Execution

December 19, 2003 By admin Leave a Comment

West Central Missouri Congressman Ike Skelton, the ranking Democrat on the U.S. House Armed Services Committee, says “too bad” to the prospect of European allies being upset that an Iraqi court could sentence Saddam Hussein to death. The death penalty is banned across most of Europe, and some countries have indicated they would like to see the former dictator tried in an international court. But Skelton believes that would take away the chance for Iraqis to mete out justice to the man who treated them so badly. Skelton says the Iraqi governing council has set up a tribunal for just such purposes.
