Former University of Missouri basketball player Ricky Clemons says he was paid by assistant coaches while he was playing basketball at the university, and that his former girlfriend deposited the checks in the bank for him. The admissions are in recordings of telephone calls Clemons made from the Boone County jail last summer. The Columbia Daily Tribune and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch have been given access to the tapes under a freedom of information request to the county sheriff. Clemons also says in the calls that two players still on the team – Arthur Johnson and Rickey Paulding – also got payments. The University is not commenting. Head Basketball Coach Quin Snyder has released a statement saying he cannot comment because of an ongoing investigation by the NCAA and because of the University’s own internal investigation.
