Some county health departments are running low on the flu vaccine, or have run out. And, the State Health Department is watching developments carefully. The Department’s Sue Denney says we’re seeing a real run on the flu vaccine since the outbreaks began to rapidly spread. Manufacturers and major national distributors say they are out. Providers are running out, or have plans for what they have left. The Department is urging health departments and private providers that have supplies they won’t be using to let others providers have it. The vaccine comes in an inhalable version, and supplies are better for that kind, but it’s not for the people most at risk. Denney says people unable to get the flu vaccine might be able to keep from getting sicker if they get another kind of medicine. She expects to get some new numbers on the severity of the outbreak in a few days.
