Blues End Leafs Streak With Overtime Win

December 10, 2003 By admin Leave a Comment

It only took 30 seconds of overtime play for the Blues to cool off the Maple Leafs. Chris Pronger scored in the extra period to give St. Louis a 3-2 win over Toronto, ending their eight-game winning streak. The Blues led 2-0 after second period goals from Mark Rycroft and Dallas Drake, but the Maple Leafs bounced back with scores from Matt Sundin in the second and Joe Nieuwendyk in the third. Nieuwendyk’s goal came short-handed with just 17 seconds left in regulation. Chris Osgood got the win, stopping 13 of 15 shots. The Blues penalty-killing unit was smothering once again, holding Toronto scoreless in seven power plays. St. Louis has killed 41 of the last 43 man-advantages they’ve faced. The victory moved the Blues back into a first place tie with the Red Wings in the Central Division.
