State lawmakers looking for possible alternatives to property taxes to fund public schools are mulling over a number of options put forward in a study commissionedby a House-Senate Committee on Education. University of Florida professor Craig Wood authored the study. One alternative he suggests is shifting from property to income. One of the concerns about this idea centers on the fact there are many valuable properties resided on by people who make little or no income.
