Sixty-two years after he died in the attack at Pearl Harbor, Payton Vanderpool Junior has been buried in his hometown of Braymer. For most of the past 62 years he has been in an unknown grave in Hawaii. His remains were identified in September through dental records. Three of his four living sisters were at the funeral. So was Urban Neff of Marceline, now 86, who was a shipmate of Vanderpool’s on the USS Pennsylvania.
