The Chiefs had no answer for the Broncos or their starting running back. Clinton Portis rushed for 218 yards and five touchdowns as Denver beat Kansas City 45-27. Things were going well for Kansas City early on, as they took a 21-17 lead into the locker room. The defense held Portis to 31 yards after two quarters of play. But things changed dramatically in the second half, as the Broncos scored 28 points in a row. Kansas City’s only retaliation was a touchdown in the waning seconds of the game. Trent Green passed for 397 yards and a touchdown, hitting Dante Hall 11 times for 124 yards, but the running game stalled for Kansas City. Priest Holmes was held to 44 yards on the ground and the Chiefs managed only 63 total rushing yards. The loss prevented Kansas City from clinching the AFC West title and it puts them in a tie for the AFC home-field advantage with the Patriots. Both teams are 11-2.
