The Cardinals have signed relievers Steve Kline and Cal Eldred to one-year deals. Kline was fifth in the National League with 78 appearances. He finished with a 5-5 record, three saves and an ERA of 3.82. Eldred bounced back from almost two years of inactivity, thanks to injuries. He had 67 strikeouts in 62 innings of work with a 3.74 ERA and a record of 7-4. Kline agreed to a deal worth $1.7-million and Eldred signed for $900,000. The Cardinals best bench player from last year is gone. Eduardo Perez signed a two-year deal with the Devil Rays yesterday. He hit .285 with 11 homers and 41 RBI’s in 2003.
