Transportation Commissioner Gates Calls It Quits

In a surprising move today at the Missouri Highway Commission meeting in Kansas City, Commissioner Ollie Gates has turned in his resignation as a show of solidarity with Transportation Director Henry Hungerbeeler, who resigned earlier this week Gates’ time on the Highway Commission is up in March, but he says this is only symbolic from the standpoint that he hopes it will make people take notice and have more confidence in the embattled department. An independent panel had recommended changes in top leadership in the transportation system but stopped short of calling for any firings or resignations.
