SEMO Keeps SIU’s Streak Alive

December 4, 2003 By admin Leave a Comment

The task for Southeast Missouri St. wasn’t an easy one. It was a task that hadn’t been accomplished in the previous 28 attempts. The Indians were trying to beat Southern Illinois at home, where the Salukis had a 28-game winning streak–the second longest in the nation. Like those who tried before them, SEMO came away with a loss, falling 71-58. Southeast held a 19-17 lead in the first half, but SIU went on a 16-6 run to take a 33-25 lead at halftime and they never looked back. Dainmon Garner led the Indians with 24 points, while Derek Winans added 14 as the Indians dropped to 3-2 on the season.
